Every second week-end in May a revival of the Middle Ages is held in which artisans, merchants, men-at-arms and common people reproduce the life style of the period between the end of the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century. In the park “Castello dei Ronchi” visitors may assist to scenes of everyday life as well as craftmen at work as in those days and may take part in classes held by experienced craftsmen and fencing masters that alternate with exhibitions of birds of prey, horse tournaments and musical and dramatic productions. Finally the battle that took place in Crevalcore in 1390 between the Bolognese army, led by the duke Alberico da Barbiano, and the Milanese Visconti army is re-evoked.Saturday morning history lessons are held for students. One cannot gain access to the park wearing historical clothes unless he/she belongs to one Reenactors group or is a registered artisan or merchant. The restaurant offers both medieval and typical local dishes.

Crevalcore is located in the rural area of Bologna bordering both Modena and Ferrara. The structure of the old town centre follows that of the roman castrum and dates back to the 13th century. The main street “Via Matteotti” features enchanting inner courtyards and typical arcades.

Characteristic of the territory of Crevalcore are the numerous manor houses or villas built by aristocratic families that, as from the 15th century, took over these lands, previously marshy and then reclaimed by the Benedictines of the neighbouring Nonantola abbey. These ancient residences boast works of art by renowned artists and especially the “Castello dei Ronchi”, extended in the 16th century by the count family Caprara from Bologna, is embellished with frescos by Agostino Carracci the Younger. Unfortunately, due to the earthquake, it is temporarily unfit for visiting.Since 2005 takes place, in the park at the back, a medieval revival “A stroll in the Middle Ages”
